BMH Expanding! Vision for the Future
The vision of the community leaders who first conceived of Memorial Hospital in 1951 has been fulfilled and expanded many times over - and the expansion isn't over yet!

Today your community hospital, Bakersfield Memorial, has begun its most challenging expansion project ever, which includes a five story tower that will significantly increase both the hospital's size and sophistication. The tower will add 24 new beds to the Intensive Care Unit, in addition to 60 private general medical care rooms and 30 private post-partum rooms for moms and babies. In addition, the tower expansion will make it possible to upgrade technology throughout the hospital to include facility-wide wireless monitoring of patients.

As part of the construction project, the Emergency Department will be expanded to include a new eight-bed Heart and Stroke Center. The physical structure of BMH will be reinforced, rendering it compliant to meet State of California earthquake standards that won't be required until 2013. In addition, several areas of the hospital, parts that were built in 1956, will be updated - all this to meet the current and future demands of our patients. We are striving to make the best even better.

Rest assured, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital will continue to provide high-quality medical services, including emergency care, during the construction period, and upon completion, will house 381 licensed acute care beds and be Bakersfield's largest medical facility. This expansion project underscores BMH's commitment to meeting the needs of Bakersfield today and tomorrow.
